Rhytidectomy (Facelift)

While aging may bring wisdom, the changes it brings to our appearance is rarely as appreciated.

As an increasingly health conscious society, better eating habits and regular exercise have allowed us to feel more vigorous and healthy later in life. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to alter the genetics that affect our aging appearance. So over time, a discrepancy often develops between how we look and how we feel. For this reason, more and more people look to plastic surgery to help restore this balance.

As facial tissues age, the skin loses its elasticity, progressively sags, and becomes lined and furrowed. The underlying fat shifts downward into the unsightly locations of the jowls, the neck, and the folds between the nose and corners of the mouth. A facelift -- when well done -- can help restore the trim, refreshed, and attractive appearance of youth, while maintaining the natural expression that is yours.

Once a simple skin lift operation, today's sophisticated facelift repositions and smoothes the facial tissues without creating a tight, unnatural or "wind tunnel" look. Excess fat is removed, underlying muscles are tightened, and the skin is redraped, rather than stretched tight as in older techniques. Amazingly, all this is accomplished while generally leaving scars that are barely noticeable.

A personal consultation with Dr. Friedman is the first step toward realizing your particular goals for improving your facial appearance. He will devote all the time necessary to answer your questions and discuss your concerns. You'll have an opportunity to see examples of his work, speak to other patients if you wish, and visualize the proposed changes by computer imaging techniques. In that way, you and Dr. Friedman can work together towards a desired visual goal before the actual surgery.
